With the Rival, Macna aims primarily at the city dweller who likes to travel on two wheels with an engine. ‘Urban’ is the key word, although it could also be ‘waterproof’ or ‘versatile’.
The Rival is a short textile jacket – by Macna standards – made of wear and tear resistant ripstop (6mm). To be clear, what is ‘short’ at Macna is never so short that you run the risk of being on the road with your lower back exposed. An integrated, non-removable Raintex® ‘plus’ membrane provides waterproofing. An additional, removable thermal liner makes the jacket suitable for and adaptable to all seasons. This implies sufficient ventilation possibilities and so Macna provides ‘Airscoop’, whereby driving wind passes through the various layers (and the membrane) without endangering waterproofness.
A word about the Raintex® ‘plus’ membrane: breathable, waterproof, windproof, soft, pleasant … we were all used to that. The ‘plus’ now adds a stretch element, making the whole membrane very impressive.
It ensures that the Rival as a motorcycle jacket never really feels like a … motorcycle jacket. Light, flexible, comfortable, even the buttons – real shank buttons – are not typical. It doesn’t need to be, because the Rival is a city-dweller with an attachable hood. This reinforces the city look without being a hindrance on the bike. Prefer to do without? No problem: the hood is easy to remove. The shank buttons are everywhere, even on both sides, where they allow you to center the Rival.
Four outer pockets – two with velcro and two with zippers – enable you to store your essentials. The easy-to-access inner pocket, again zippered, is located inside the outer jacket. The removable lining also features an extra pocket.
Protection comes from the standard shoulder and elbow protectors: RISC, CE approved and level 1 and a back protector is easy to fit, you can be sure of that.
With the Belt Loop, the motorcycle jacket can be attached to any pair of jeans, for those who want to complete the urban look.
